FALL 2006

When I think that I’ll slow down when the school year starts the shows keep coming in. In the words of Michael Corlione,” I try to get out but they pull me back in”. September started with a bang with two quick pick up gigs on Friday 9/1 at the Old Dublin and Sat 9/2 at JJ Maddens. This weekend was spent with the usual suspects of Nick and Jimmy. The rest of the month consisted of a regular Thursday at Yanni’s Too and the St. Teresa’s Golf Tournament reception at the Normanside CC. Many Thanks to Gary 7 and Nick for their help. They will find their reward in heaven, cuz it ain’t here on earth.
In October I began subbing for Jimmy at Brown’s Brew Pub in Troy on Thursday’s open mic. Over the past months I’ve done about half of them and rather enjoyed myself. The rest of month I continued to do solos at Yanni’s, played the Garden Grill and JJ Maddens. I also did a wedding at Wolferrts Roost which is one of the more difficult load ins. The band must hump the gear past the dumpsters, thru the kitchen, up the elevator, thru the upstairs kitchen and all the way across the ballroom.
November and December played much like the rest of the fall, with Thursdays Open mic in Troy and Yanni solo gigs. The one exception was a fire house gig on Hunter Mt, which I have been doing for the last ten years. The Mountain Road was still washed out and we had to drive to the other side and come over the top. This added an hour to an already long night. The line up consisted of Nick, Gary 7 and Jimmy Kelly on guitar, we
had many laughs and a nice meal.
New years eve was spent at the Elks in Catskill for the third year running. Jimmy’s cousin Colin Kelly filled on drums and saved the day. I have been struggling to find drummers due to Kenny’s absence due to heath issues and Jimmy is playing fulltime with Andy Cooney. Colin has been a big help along with Gary 7 helping me to keep the drum bullpen stocked.
