Geo Hosting the open mic at Brown's Brewing 12/2007
I have ignored this blog for a good bit of time, so I plan to catch up on the doings of the band in 2008. The new year came in with a thud as we played the Elbo Room to a small crowd, but at least we were able scare up that gig after a late cancel. I have been hosting the open mic at Brown’s in Troy and loving it, great place, some good players and songwriters and a nice hang . The problem is it’s coming to a close on Feb 7, the last Thursday. Many thanks to Jimmy Kelly, who originally landed the gig and has been generous enough to let me host when he’s busy. The thing is he’s been busy due to his main gig with Andy Cooney, or as I refer to him as Clooney. I checked my books and realized I did exactly half (26 out of 52 weeks) and the open mic in 2007. This gig was as much mine as it was Jimmy’s. The plan is to move the open mic up the street to Ryan’s Wake. Only two doors away Ryan Wake would be ideal. Potential issues may affect the deal, but we both hope it stays a regular Thursady evening .
December was busy and chaotic as usual. Mixed in with the school x-mas shows I’m responsible for, I managed to squeeze in a couple nice holiday parties and Thursday’s at Brown’s for the whole month. January is coming to a close and has moved along nicely, thank you very much. The acoustic duo version kicked out a show at The Midtown Tap & Tea Room on New Scotland , near The Fountain. If you haven’t been please check The Midtown, we’re back Sat Feb 23
On Jan18 we lit up the Elbo Room with what we in the business and I do mean the industry, call the Rock and Roll Show. Kenny’s long awaited return to the kit was well received, with many friends and fans alike out to cheer him and the band. Those in attendence who cme up to play included Tommy Wiley on guitar and Jeff Calrke on trumpet, many thanks to all in the house. We responded with a well-played and extremely fulfilling evening. Which is more difficult than it looks, kinda like Juggling or teaching. A shout to Nick who passed the three year mark on this gig, Thanks for the all the work and friendship. Big ups to Kenny, ,we really groove when you're on the throne. Back at The Elbo Room Friday Feb 15 with Kenny again. I’ll try to make this blog a monthly affair, ah, but alas the devils in the details.
Grace to all, Geo
